Bar of the Week: Shuang Xi
It's almost like chilling in your friend's apartment
177, Jalan Tun H S Lee, City Centre, 50000, Kuala Lumpur
Tuesdays to Sundays, 9pm till late
Why it's special
This hidden bar is best explained as a psychedelic hangout space. Filling the room is everything from vintage Mars Attack movie posters to Frankenstein's head to plants in a bath tub. Blue and pink neon lights create an eclectic vibe. If you're lucky, you might catch one of their movie screening nights where they screen some of the bar owner's favourite movies. It's a semi-profit bar where half of their profits go to supporting local artists. Tip away to give your support too.
What to drink
Cocktails are refreshingly simple and non-fussy here (they're even served in old-school soda glasses). If you want something light and refreshing with a local twist, ask for Familiar Strangers – made with nutmeg, lemon, ginger and vodka.
Our personal favourite though is a special off-the-menu drink made from whisky, cinnamon and lime. Zesty with a kick.
What to eat
If you foresee being hungry, we recommend grabbing a bite before heading over as they only serve nachos (perfect if you're just feeling peckish or want something light to snack on with your friends).
Upping your Instagram game or a super low-key chill session with your pals.
Slide into their Facebook inbox for reservations (you'll want to do so because the bar is by reservation only).
