Yesterday, Zayn Malik launched his new self-titled memoir Zayn. According to a note he posted on Instagram, the memoir consists of things that are very personal; things he's never told anyone before and things he still finds hard to talk about.

One of those things is an eating disorder he suffered from during his days at One Direction, which kick-started his musical career.

"When I look back at images of myself from November 2014, before the final tour, I can see how ill I was," Zayn wrote. "Something I've never talked in public before, but which I have come to terms with since leaving the band, is that I was suffering from an eating disorder."

"It wasn't as though I had any concerns about my weight or anything like that, I'd just go for days – sometimes two or three days straight – without eating anything at all. It got quite serious, although at the time I didn't recognise it for what it was," he added.

However, Zayn told Associated Press that he had never actually been officially diagnosed with an eating disorder. "It was just more down to losing track of, you know, actually eating, and being super busy and getting caught up with other things that 17 or 18-year-olds do, which normally entails them going out, drinking or partying." But don't worry, he's becoming better at managing his diet now.
