Tony Eusoff sentenced to eight months in jail
The Malaysian actor was caught with cannabis in his possession last month
Malaysian actor Tony Eusoff, whose real name is Anthony Joseph Hermas Rajiman, has been sentenced to eight months in a Singaporean jail for the possession of drugs. Tony pleaded guilty to having a packet of cannabis in his possession at the Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) bus arrival hall at Singapore's Tuas checkpoint on 12 March.
According to Straits Times Singapore, the cannabis was found behind the last row of seats on the upper deck of the coach. Authorities questioned the passengers before Tony admitted to owning the packet.
The drugs weighed about 4.65 grams, which left the 39-year-old facing up to 10 years of jail time or a fine of up to SGD20,000 (approx. RM57,750). Luckily for Tony, his lawyer, Abraham Vergis, succeeded in getting a reduced sentence by arguing that stress was the reason for the possession.
Wild Rice artistic director Ivan Heng, actor Lim Kay Siu and his wife, Neo Swee Lin, investment banker and CEO of TC Capital, Dr Tommy Tan and film producer Vinod Shekar attended the court hearing to support Tony last Thursday.
"He [Tony] is looking forward to using his story as a learning point for others to not try or associate oneself with drugs," said Mr Vergis. Tony is also determined to turn his life around when he gets released, he said.
