It’s that sparkly time of year again when trophies are being polished and red carpets are being dusted off: award season returns! The People’s Choice Awards, on Wednesday, started the season on a high and happy note, with many clear favourites topping the popular votes to take home multiple awards.

Heroine of the moment Sandra Bullock took home three awards in the film categories, Justin Timberlake  snagged three awards for music and Ellen Degeneres won her 14th People’ Choice Award (yes, 14!).

Sequels of popular movies made it big this year too, with awards going to Despicable Me 2, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Iron Man 3. In television, not surprisingly, the people’s vote went to series that have been hot topics in just about all our social circles – Homeland, American Horror Story, Orange is the New Black and The Big Bang Theory were all obvious winners.

Over in the music categories, we’re whooping for the top wins of our own favourites – Katy Perry took home two awards, while gorgeous girls Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift, and men we love to fall in love with such as Tim McGraw and Fall Out Boy all headed the popular votes. We especially love the fact that they’ve kept their clothes on throughout the year, proving the lovely truth that people do still prefer talent over twerking.

We’re now looking forward to the Golden Globes, on 12 January, where People’s Choice Awards winners Sandra Bullock and Leonardo DiCaprio are each up for a globe, as are movie nominees Gravity and Captain Philips. Bring out the bubbly, it’s only going to get more glamorous.
