Taylor Swift is the world's highest-paid celebrity this year
And haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Taylor Swift climbed from last year's no. 8 ranking to become this year's world's highest-paid celebrity on Forbes's Celebrity 100 list. She earned US$170 million (over RM680 million) thanks to her 1989 world tour that wrapped up earlier this year. Tay also beat Adele who ranked ninth with $80.5 million; both of them are the only women on the top 10.
You cannot be surprised that Taylor earns this much, despite the fact she comes nowhere near boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s $300 million pay cheque from last year (that number still floors us every time we think about it). The singer doesn't just sell albums and tour tickets, she has multi-million-dollar endorsement deals with Diet Coke, Keds and Apple after all.
Ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris finished 21st with $63 million; if they were still together, Taylor and Calvin would have been the highest-paid celebrity couple of the year again, just saying. The rest of the top five are One Direction (no. 2, $110 million), author James Patterson (no. 3, $93 million), Cristiano Ronaldo and Dr. Phil McGraw (both tied at no.4, $88 million).
The moral of the story: if you want to be rich, date a lot, write songs about exes, write books, play football or be on TV. Reality: we'll never be rich.
