Kangin released after arrested for assault
The K-pop star reportedly assaulted a woman who claimed to be his girlfriend
Super Junior member Kangin has allegedly assaulted a female friend in Sinsa, Seoul earlier today. Reports say that South Korean police had received a call around 4am saying that the 34-year-old artist was under the influence of alcohol when he started hitting the victim who claimed she was his girlfriend. Kangin was then arrested and subsequently released as she did not want to press charges against him.
"The woman who was on location stated that she was Kangin's girlfriend, but this is information that should be confirmed through Kangin or his agency, not the police," the authorities said. "Kangin was drunk, but not completely intoxicated, and he was released with a warning as the two people involved reached a resolution on location."
SJ Label, the recording company of Super Junior released a statement to apologise for the situation.
First, we sincerely apologise for causing distress. At the time, Kangin was having an argument with a friend he was drinking with, and the misunderstanding that arose from the situation led to the police being called to the location. We have apologised to the other party and the situation was resolved. We would like once more to sincerely apologise for Kangin causing distress during a time in which he is reflecting on past actions.
Meanwhile, Super Junior fans (or ELF as they're called) took to Kangin's Instagram page to call for his exit from the boyband. This won't be Kangin's first encounter with the authorities; he's been arrested before for two separate DUI hit-and-run cases.
