Shia LaBeouf is receiving treatment for alcohol addiction
The actor was recently arrested in New York for disorderly conduct brought on by his alcohol abuse
Shia LaBeouf has voluntarily opted to seek professional help for his issues with booze following his arrest in New York City last week.
A representative for the star told Access Hollywood, "Shia LaBeouf has not checked into a rehabilitation facility but he is voluntarily receiving treatment for alcohol addiction. He understands that these recent actions are a symptom of a larger health problem and he has taken the first of many necessary steps towards recovery."
The Transformers star was charged with harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing last Thursday after he allegedly began yelling offensive language and slapping people's bottoms midway through a Broadway performance of Cabaret at Studio 54.
He was also spotted arguing with a homeless man over a baseball cap on the streets of the city a few hours before his arrest. A source said the actor was acting as if he knew the man, but seemed "whacked out" and was making no sense.
Shia is expected to appear in court in relation to his New York charges on 24 July.
Earlier this year, Shia stormed out of a Nymphomaniac press conference in Berlin, before arriving on the red carpet for the film's German premiere wearing a paper bag on his head that read, "I'm not famous anymore" causing friends and family to become increasingly worried about the former Disney star.
