Selena Gomez's best friend gave her a kidney
"She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis," Selena said
Yesterday, Selena Gomez revealed on Instagram that she had kept a low profile over the summer because she had been recovering from getting a kidney transplant.
"So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering," Selena wrote. "It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you."
She also thanked her team of doctors, family and her best friend and actress in The Secret Life of the American Teenager Francia Raisa, who had donated a kidney to her.
"Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post surgery," Selena said. "And finally, there aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis."
Francia also wrote on her Instagram, "I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process. This was part of our story, and we will share it soon, but what is important now is that this is not the only story."
Reports say that both Francia and Selena have been recovering well. So fans can be rest assured. Of course, Selena's boyfriend The Weeknd had been very supportive. A source claimed that he had scheduled his performances around her surgery. "It was a super serious operation," the source said. "And all her friends were worried."
Selena first shared that she had been battling Lupus in an interview with Billboard in 2015. She then went on a brief career break last August after suffering from "anxiety, panic attacks and depression" due to the illness.
