Screen Actors Guild Awards 2014: The Winners
American Hustle and Dallas Buyers Club pick up a few more awards on their way to the Oscars
Awards season continued with the Screen Actors Guild Awards, in which frontrunners American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club and Breaking Bad won big.
Dallas Buyers Club took both Best Male Actor and Best Supporting Male Actor, by Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto respectively, while Cate Blanchett continued her streak by picking up Best Female Actor for Blue Jasmine. Breakout star Lupita Nyong’o picked up another award for her performance in 12 Years a Slave, and the (unfairly beautiful and talented) cast of American Hustle won Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
The casts of Breaking Bad and Modern Family won Best Ensembles in the television categories, and Ty Burrell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Douglas and Helen Mirren were individual winners.
The SAG Awards have become just as noted for the deserving winners though, as for the curious omission of other deserving winners. Maggie Smith missed out on an award nod again, as did 12 Years a Slave, and longtime winner Alec Baldwin was notably absent, as Ty Burrell won the award Baldwin is accustomed to collecting.
Also, Jennifer Lawrence coined the term ‘armpit vagina’. Thanks, JLaw.
