Sandra Bullock is Forbes' highest earning actress of 2014
The Gravity star tops the Hollywood-heavyweight list with a $51 million figure
It may have surprised you when Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity turned out to be a seat-gripping cinematic thrill and consequent box office success, but it really shouldn't surprise you to learn that the film's leading lady, Sandra Bullock is Forbes' highest earning actress for the year ending June 2014.
Gravity scored ten nominations at the Academy Awards, and left Dolby Theatre with seven gold statues including one for the director, although Sandra missed out on hers to Cate Blanchett. Even so, that didn't stop The Blind Side actress from leading Forbes' board with $51 million, having only had two films released in the second half of 2013.
Sandra is followed by Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Aniston, and Gwyneth Paltrow, all who earned $34 million, $31 million, and $19 million respectively. There's no questioning why JLaw is first runner-up again – she's only the star of the popular The Hunger Games film series, and is also known for her role as Mystique in the rebooted X-Men films.
Previous No. 1 Angelina Jolie dropped to fifth place at $18 million to tie with Cameron Diaz because Forbes had counted her upfront payment for Maleficent in the 2013 list. With possibly lucrative backend earnings from the Disney film, which was released in May 2014, Angelina may yet reclaim first place next year.
