Queen Elizabeth II is to visit the Game of Thrones set in Belfast
Forget winter; the Queen is coming
Step aside, Margaery Tyrell. There's a real and proper Queen in town, and it's not you. Britain's Queen Elizabeth II will be touring the set of Game of Thrones and she may or may not be amused.
Her majesty and her husband, Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh will go on tour in Northern Ireland between 23 June and 25 June. The British Monarchy's official Twitter announced the visit on 18 June.
The picturesque Northern Ireland serves as a major filming location for the fantasy series, including the set of Winterfell and Riverrun. No, the Queen will not be visiting The Wall; that's in Iceland, apparently.
Speaking of Game of Thrones, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have confirmed that the popular HBO series will expand filming locations to Spain for its fifth season. This is to film fictional region, Dorne, the birthplace of Prince Oberyn Martell.
Is it too much to hope that some of the characters – yes, you too, Cersei Lannister – will turn up in their costumes for an amazing group photo with her Majesty?
