WATCH: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle talk about the proposal
Meghan Markle said she wouldn't even let Prince Harry finish proposing: "Can I say yes now?"
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are seriously the cutest. The couple, who got engaged just yesterday, talked to the BBC about the proposal.
They were in their cottage, having roast chicken, when Harry got on one knee. Meghan's reaction was instant.
"As a matter of fact I could barely let you finish proposing, I was like 'Can I say yes now?'" she explained. Harry proposed with a yellow gold ring with a diamond from Botswana, circled by smaller diamonds from his mother Princess Diana's collection.
"It was a really nice moment and it was just the two of us and I think I managed to catch her by surprise," the prince added.
Harry and Meghan also confirmed a few details about their relationship: they've been together a little over a year and a half, and met through a mutual friend, who was actually trying to set them up. Then they had two dates in London last year, and a few weeks later, Harry asked Meghan to come with him to Botswana.
"We camped out with each other under the stars," Harry said. "Then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to get to know each other." Because before they met, Harry had never heard of Meghan, and she barely knew anything about him or the British royal family.
The 36-year-old actress said: "I think for both of us though, it was really refreshing because given I didn't know a lot about him, everything that I've learned about him, I learned through him as opposed to having grown up around different news stories or tabloids. Anything that I learned about him and his family was what he would share with me and vice versa."
Meghan has met Her Majesty, The Queen a couple of times so far. According to Harry, the Queen's corgis took to his fiancée immediately. "For the last 33 years I've been barked at. This one walks in and absolutely nothing just wagging tails and I was just like, ugh," Harry revealed, as Meghan quipped "Just laying on my feet during tea, it was very sweet!"
While Meghan was working on Suits, her tight schedule kept them apart for a while, but they made it work anyway, travelling back and forth to see each other. Also, with the scrutiny the royal family experiences all the time as well as the fact that Harry and Meghan have very different backgrounds, it may mean a huge change in Meghan's life, despite her being familiar to celebrity culture. However, the two find more common ground than differences, as well as similar interests in humanitarian causes.
"The fact that I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly was a confirmation to me that all the stars were aligned, everything was just perfect," Harry said. "Whatever we have to tackle together or individually, it will always be us together as a team," he added.
On not having Princess Diana around to share in the excitement, Harry said: "It is days like today when I really miss having her around and miss having to share the happy news, but with the ring and with everything else that's going on I'm sure she's with us, and jumping up and down somewhere else."
