Pregnant Lisa Surihani and husband empathise with couples trying to have kids
The KRU singer explains why he and his wife weren't too vocal about expecting a baby
Malaysian actress Lisa Surihani and KRU singer Yusry Abdul Halim announced in January that they were expecting their first child together. The couple married in February 2012 and have been trying to have a child since then, without success until now.
As speculation mounted that a baby was on the way, the couple did not rush to confirm or deny it. Finally, Yusry has explained why.
"One of the reasons why we didn't cause a fuss with the news about the pregnancy is because we've been trying for three years. During those three years, seeing other people happy with their pregnancies and showing off their baby bump made us feel sad," he told Utusan Malaysia. "Artist or no artist, I know there are many couples who haven't had children and are still trying. I understand how they feel."
He also revealed that they want to raise their child away from the public eye.
"I want my child to grow up like Lisa and I did. I'd rather not have the baby born and immediately have cameras everywhere," he said. "However, if someone comes up to us while we're on holiday or shopping, I have no problem with them taking pictures of us with our kids. That's normal because we're celebrities but I mean that we don't want to show off our children as celebrities too."
