Neil Patrick Harris teases with his first Oscar promo video
After Christmas, the next most wonderful time of the year must be the Academy Awards. So it seemed fitting that Neil Patrick Harris, host of next year's show, released the first promo video on Christmas day. It's only 16 seconds but what can we say? That funny man'll have us watching anything. If this short, cheeky promo is anything to go by, we're pretty sure it's going to be a good show.

Jennifer Lawrence shares Christmas cheer at a children's hospital
It looks like Jennifer Lawrence really lives up to the same strong, compassionate traits her Hunger Games character Katniss Everdeen embodies. While on a trip back to her hometown, Louisville in Kentucky, the 24-year-old actress took time out to visit the Kosair Children's Hospital to share a little Christmas cheer with patients and staff.

Jennifer joined in group photos as well as selfies with some of the patients, which have since been shared all round social media accounts. Jennifer also visited the hospital last Christmas and is no stranger to working with children – her parents ran a children's day camp as she was growing up and she used to help as an assistant nurse there. Now here's what we call a real hero, onscreen and off.

Russell Crowe thinks women in Hollywood just need to act their age
In response to what several Hollywood actresses have said about the unequal number of roles being offered to women in film, Russell Crowe has said that he thinks they need to just act their age.

Excuse me? What? Yes, he said this: "I think you'll find that the woman who is saying that [the roles have dried up] is the woman who at 40, 45, 48, still wants to play the ingénue, and can't understand why she's not being cast as the 21-year-old," he said in an interview with The Australian Women's Weekly.

He goes on to dismiss what women have been saying about the gender divide in Hollywood. "Meryl Streep will give you 10,000 examples and arguments as to why that's bullshit, so will Helen Mirren, or whoever it happens to be," he said. "If you are willing to live in your own skin, you can work as an actor. If you are trying to pretend that you’re still the young buck when you’re my age, it just doesn’t work… you do have to be prepared to accept that there are stages in life. So I can’t be the Gladiator forever."

No mention of there simply not being that many roles for older women. Here's something else that's bulls**t. White, straight, male privilege talking as if there's no problem in the world.

Avril Lavigne denies she's in rehab
Since Avril Lavigne tweeted earlier this month about "some health issues", there has been speculation she might be in rehab. However, on Christmas eve she posted a tweet dissing the rumours as "hilarious".

She followed by posting plenty of festive tweets and photos on Christmas day – the usual greetings, fan art, throwback photos. Oh, and this retweet of Marilyn Manson's. OK.
