Neelofa, who was just announced as Lancôme's first Malaysian ambassador, is not here for negative comments about how she dresses.

The actress posted a photograph of her aboard a boat on Lake Como, Italy on 19 September; in it, she wore jeans that were ripped at the knees. Some people were apparently quick to criticise her exposed knees (which goes against Muslim guidelines about aurat), but as it turns out, Neelofa was actually wearing nude innerwear under her jeans.

"This isn't the first time that I've worn jeans like that," she told Berita Harian in Malay. "I know I wear the hijab and of course I had a nude coloured inner layer on under the jeans. As usual, people try to find fault with my appearance and throw all kinds of insults at me."

Neelofa has disabled comments for the Instagram photo in question.

Neelofa was also in Milan recently for the Swarovski party, where she paired her red Fiziwoo gown with a turban, which exposed a bit of her hair above her ears. Many fans showered her with praises, but (again) others weren't so pleased. Some even went as far to say that she might as well stop wearing the hijab.

"I know who I am and I like wearing something that is comfortable – not because someone told me to. It didn't even cross my mind to remove my hjiab because wearing it was my choice from the start," Neelofa added. "Women in hijabs can't be tied down to one trend only, we can give it stylish updates."

The 28-year-old entrepreneur pointed out that people are also overlooking the more important aspects of her work. She was in New York earlier this month, representing Malaysia at the MiSK UNDP Youth Forum to speak about Malaysia's culture and diversity. Who wouldn't be furious when nit-picking negativity overshadows a better cause?
