Miley Cyrus discusses her sexuality
The Disney starlet talks honestly and openly in a new interview with 'Paper' magazine
Miley Cyrus is no stranger to baring it all. So it wasn't exactly surprising that the former Hannah Montana star openly discusses her sexuality in a new interview with Paper magazine. Specifically, the star speaks about telling her mum she was bisexual at 14.
"I remember telling her I admire women in a different way. And she asked me what that meant. And I said, I love them. I love them like I love boys," said Miley. "And it was so hard for her to understand. She didn't want me to be judged and she didn't want me to go to hell. But she believes in me more than she believes in any god. I just asked for her to accept me. And she has."
She also explains why we've never heard anything about her dating women. "I've had that but people never really looked at it, and I never brought it into the spotlight," said Miley.
The 22-year-old singer is also a social activist, with her own foundation called The Happy Hippie that works with homeless and LGBT youth. Miley says she was partly inspired to create the foundation by the death of Leelah Acorn, a transgender girl who committed suicide after being forced to undergo "conversion therapy".
