Lupita Nyong'o is going to a galaxy far, far away
'Star Wars: Episode VII' casts the Oscar winner and 'Game of Thrones' star Gwendoline Christie
After much too much speculation, the dreams of Lupita Nyong'o fans everywhere – us included – have come true. Academy Award-winning Lupita has been cast in JJ Abram's Star Wars: Episode VII, along with Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth in HBO's Game of Thrones.
Following the official announcement from Lucasfilm, Lupita tweeted her own excitement. Talk about a skyrocketing career!
I can finally say it out loud and proud: I'm going to a galaxy far far away! http://t.co/b39DjEEAzB— Lupita Nyong'o (@Lupita_Nyongo) June 2, 2014
Game of Thrones buffs will also be pleased to see more of Gwendoline on the silver screen in addition to her role as Commander Lyme in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2.
Lupita and Gwendoline join Star Wars newcomers Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, and Daisy Ridley. Their galactic roles have yet to be confirmed although we're hoping for plenty of action from them. This is Lupita and Gwendoline (have you even met Brienne of Tarth?) we're talking about.
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that she couldn't be more delighted about the two ladies joining the cast. "It's thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape."
Star Wars: Episode VII opens 18 December 2015 worldwide.
