Lorde curates 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1' soundtrack
The singer will also contribute the first single for the upcoming film starring Jennifer Lawrence
Lorde has been chosen to curate the soundtrack album for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1. She tweeted her excitement yesterday, and already has over six thousand retweets mirroring her enthusiasm.
i am so pleased and proud to have been announced the sole curator of the soundtrack for MOCKINGJAY - PART 1— Lorde (@lordemusic) July 31, 2014
"Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance," the 17-year-old said. "Being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people."
According to Francis Lawrence, director of Mockingjay, Lorde's musical vision is a perfect fit for the theme of the film.
"Her immense talent and keen understanding of Mockingjay's characters and themes not only have enabled her to create a song of her own that completely captures the film's essence, but her insight and passion for our project make her the perfect creative force to assemble the other songs on our soundtrack," he said.
The Civil Wars and Taylor Swift contributed Safe & Sound as the first film's lead single, later winning a Grammy Award for it. We haven't heard Lorde's new song, but we think it could be another Grammy-worthy number.
