For One Night Only, Music's Leading Ladies Front Nirvana
From Joan Jett to Lorde, the ladies takes Kurt Cobain’s place for a night
Be green with envy because the 17 year-old Royals hitmaker has lived the dream of every nineties kid. Lorde has joined Joan Jett, St. Vincent's Annie Clark and Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon to front a Nirvana reunion.
The remaining members of Nirvana, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, alongside Foo Fighter’s lead guitarist Pat Smear performed at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2014 at Barclays Center in New York and called in music's leading ladies to fill in Kurt Cobain’s shoes for the night.
The Nirvana playlist included Joan Jett standing in for Kurt Cobain on Smells Like Teen Spirit. She was followed by Kim Gordon for Aneurysm, St. Vincent’s Annie Clark on Lithium and finally, Lorde joined the band for a rendition of All Apologies.
The night wasn’t all about Nirvana, though. This year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame event also featured the legends of KISS, Yusuf Islam, Hall & Oates, Linda Ronstadt and Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.
