[Updated 6 October 2016] Karl Lagerfeld spoke up about the Kim Kardashian robbery incident, saying that security at the apartment should have been stricter.

"I don't understand why she was in the hotel with no security," he said. "If you're that famous and you put all your jewellery on the net, you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room."

"You have to see in what time we live. You cannot display your wealth and then be surprised that some people want to share it," he added.

More light has been shed on the thieves that got away with over €9 million worth of jewellery. The Sun reports that Paris police have seized security camera footage from a nearby nail salon Bel Ange. The video shows the gang making their escape via the Marche De La Madeleine, an office and retail building just behind the apartment Kim had been staying. Investigations to identify the assailants continue.

[Updated 4 October 2016] More details about the robbery: Kim's bodyguard Pascal Duvier had been on security detail with her sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner at a nightclub. TMZ adds that Kim's friend Simone was in the same apartment when the robbers broke in, countering reports of Kim being alone during the incident. Simon had been asleep in the downstairs bedroom, but when she heard the commotion, she locked herself in a bathroom and called Pascal, who reached the apartment two minutes after the robbers escaped.

[Updated 4 October 2016] French officials have revealed that Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint on Sunday evening at Hôtel de Pourtalès by men disguised as police officers, who escaped with jewellery worth at least €9 million (approx. RM41.5 million), as early estimates reveal. This includes a €4 million diamond ring that Kanye West gave to her, and two smartphones.

The French Interior Ministry told CNN that the concierge was threatened, tied up and forced by five men to show them to the room where the 35-year-old mother of two had been staying. Kim had been alone in her hotel room when two of the assailants broke into it and, holding her at gunpoint, gagged her and locked her in the bathroom. The robbers escaped the hotel on bicycles, according to police. No one was hurt during the incident.

Kim Kardashian was held up at gunpoint in her Paris apartment in the early hours of Monday morning by five masked men allegedly dressed as policemen, E! News reports. It is believed the gang tied up Kardashian and stole several million dollars' worth of jewellery.

The reality TV star was in the city for Paris Fashion Week. Her spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying: "She is badly shaken but physically unharmed."

Kim's husband Kanye West had been performing at the Meadows Music & Arts Festival in Queens, New York when he heard of the emergency and cut short his set.
