Elizabeth Tan opens up about depression
The Malaysian singer responds to reports that she became suicidal after a breakup
Malaysian singer Elizabeth Tan has responded to reports that she was suicidal due to a recent breakup.
The 23-year-old, who spoke to Astro Gempak on Tuesday at the launch of her new single Darling, said that various personal problems, including family, religious and relationship issues, had put a lot of pressure on her, so much so that she experienced suicidal thoughts.
Elizabeth wrote on Facebook (which we've translated from Malay to English) to clarify that her split was not the only cause of her breakdown.
I want to correct something because I've just found out that there were a few headlines published today that said I had been depressed to the point of suicide after a failed relationship [...] The headlines are not true so I hope nobody misunderstands.
It's true I've been a bit depressed and under pressure before this, which is why I took a short break early this year but it's not because I broke up. I have been going through some things over the past three years that I've kept to myself and the relationship issue triggered the rest of it.
But don't worry, I'm a lot better now. Time really does heal. More importantly, is that I seriously learned a lot from all the bad and even good experiences. Thank you all so much for all the support.
