Colbie Caillat takes off her makeup in moving new music video
In the music video for her latest single, 'Try', Colbie Caillat shoots down arbitrary beauty standards and embraces how she looks
We've heard this song and dance before – taking off your makeup and accepting how you look – but it's one song and dance we never tire of.
Colbie Caillat's music video for her single Try from her new EP, Gypsy Heart, has her removing layers of makeup and hair extensions to reveal her natural face. She sings about putting makeup on, getting your nails done, keeping slim, and running the extra mile to meet the public's beauty standards, but asks "do you like you?"
Along with a few women of different ages and diverse looks, Colbie sets an example in being real and not hiding behind cosmetics, but going past them to accept and be comfortable with how you look.
While Colbie admits to ELLE.com that she enjoys getting dolled up, she warns that "It's so true that you can go so far down the rabbit hole of altering yourself to where you're not happy anymore." The Bubbly singer added that her new album cover was not Photoshopped at all and that she's doing less hair and makeup for video shoots.
"It's more for the public appearances as an artist that I feel like I have to be polished, and now I'm excited to stop that and just kind of go as I naturally am more often," she said.
