Charlize Theron and Sean Penn break up
The actors have reportedly ended their engagement
Charlize Theron and Sean Penn have ended their 18-month relationship, according to Us Weekly. The couple were secretly engaged last November, and often made public appearances together, most recently at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Their split comes a shock to many, since The Last Face colleagues (he directed, she acted) have always sung praises for each other.
"Putting aside that he's my partner, he's the love of my life," Charlize said in an interview for the June issue of ELLE UK. "For the first time, I felt that my work was really bleeding into my life and that made it hard. There were moments where I was incredibly unfair to him. And moments where I felt like… he was incredibly unfair to me. But it makes you realise that no matter how complicated it gets, the priority is the relationship."
The South African actress also said in an interview for the May issue of Esquire that falling in love with Sean was something that changed both their lives.
"I'm a very, very, very lucky girl. Very lucky," she gushed. "He's hot."
Sean, who has been married twice before, expressed the same in the March issue of Esquire UK.
"Yeah, I'm surprised to be in love. Lot of reasons. I'm self-proclaimed bad at mathematics but I can do two plus two: 53 years old plus finally beginning to figure out why you haven't been happy in a single relationship? It could seem too late. But to run into somebody now who you care about is a much more passionate, deeper, truer and – God! – a much happier feeling."
In January, it was reported that Sean had filed to adopt Charlize's son Jackson, who she adopted in 2012.
Neither Charlize nor Sean have responded to the reports of their sudden break up, so we'll hold on to the hope that this is only a rumour.
