Céline Dion's husband dies at 73
René Angélil, her husband and former manager, died from cancer today
Céline Dion's rep has confirmed to People that her husband, René Angélil, has died from throat cancer at the age of 73. "René Angélil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer," read a statement issued by the rep. "The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment."
René discovered Céline in 1980, signing her on and paying for her debut album, going on to become her longtime manager. They then married in 1994. He leaves behind his children with Céline – René-Charles, 14, and 5-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy – as well as Anne-Marie, Patrick and Jean-Pierre from previous marriages.
Céline says that she promised to keep René's dying wish, to die in her arms.
