Benedict Cumberbatch is going to be a dad
The Sherlock star's fiancée Sophie Hunter is pregnant
Of all of Benedict Cumberbatch's roles, his real life role of father-to-be is the one we're most excited about. Yes, Benedict's fiancée, Sophie Hunter, is expecting and the two will soon be parents.
Sources told Page Six the British actor is "delighted and excited" about becoming a father, and that the couple may marry within the next few months.
"Sophie is a few months along, and both she and Benedict are very excited about it. They are also quietly planning to marry in early spring," a source said.
Benedict and Sophie took the world by surprise when they announced their engagement in November and they have not left the headlines since. So when The Imitation Game star turned up at the recent Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala with his fiancée at his side, it was only natural their upcoming marriage was brought up.
"One thing at a time," he said of their wedding plans. Benedict has been busy with awards season, having already scored nominations for the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards for his portrayal of code-breaker Alan Turing. He's also got that possible Oscar nomination to look forward to.
The 38-year-old will soon begin filming the fourth season of BBC's Sherlock.
"My main focus is going to be on that, and then [awards season] is just sort of a wonderful burst of manic crazy fresh air in the midst of it all," he said.
That, and his wedding and duties as a new father afterwards. Benedict and Sophie have not confirmed the pregnancy news, but we'd like to point out how Sophie, wearing a loose-fitting dress, very conveniently hides her tummy with her clutch on the red carpet.
