Bar Refaeli allegedly arrested for tax evasion
The supermodel refutes claims of the offence
Israel's highest-paid model Bar Refaeli was reportedly arrested for not paying her taxes yesterday when the authorities raided her home. Apparently, she had avoided payment by lying about her residency status as non-Israelites do not need to report income earned outside the country.
According to Agence France-Presses, Bar was suspected of accepting benefits of "over a million shekels" (more than $256,000, approx. RM1.1 million) in the form of free accommodation and luxury cars. Her mother Tzipi was also arrested as she too had lied about the model's residency.
Despite all the allegations, Bar's lawyer rejected the claims. "There is no drama. In the end, this is just a civil dispute. No one cheated anyone else. It will all clear up soon," said Giora Aderet, Bar's lawyer.
