Azealia Banks files police report against Russell Crowe
The rapper claims that the actor hurled racist slurs at her before choking her and throwing her out of his party
Rapper Azealia Banks has filed a police report against actor Russell Crowe in one of the most bizzare celebrity feuds to happen recently. It all started when Russell hosted a party on 15 October in his suite at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Azealia Banks attended the party with Wu-Tang Clan's RZA, a close friend of Russell's.
Azealia claimed that at the party, she had jokingly told one of Russell's friends that perhaps the Oscar winner's upcoming film would "suck."
"But then Russell turns to me, and he was like, 'Hey, you haven't done anything in your career, and you're so young, and you don't know what you're talking about. You don't know what you're talking about, you haven't done anything in your career, blah, blah, blah,'" she told Us Weekly. "I was confused, I'm just like, wait, is he joking, is he serious? But I keep it light, and I'm just like, 'OK, well, you're not poppin' anymore. Your best days are behind you, Russell Crowe. Nobody's checking for Russell Crowe right now.'"
She had earlier written in a now-deleted Facebook post that Russell called her a n****r, then choked her and spat on her before throwing her off the premises for her comments.
However, TMZ reports that it was Azealia who started it all when she "laughed out loud at Russell's music selection, and then called him and one other guest 'boring white men'". She also allegedly threatened to stab the other guests in the room when she was told to be quiet. It was also speculated that Azealia was the one who used the N-word and not Russell.
RZA, who supposedly witnessed the whole thing, posted his account of the incident on Facebook yesterday. "Azealia threaten [sic] to cut a girl in the face with a glass, then actually grabs a glass and physically attacks for no logical reason," he wrote. "Russell blocked the attack and expelled her from the suite. Seeing is believing and I saw her behave as an obnoxious erratic individual and in the circles I frequent this was unprecedented."
Unwilling to go down without a fight, Azealia wrote a response on Facebook. "RZA has clearly been given no legal advice and went straight to TMZ out of his feelings to try and gaslight me," she began. "Whatever pieces are left of his brain after years and years of smoking dust stupidly allowed him to ramble himself into incriminating his friend, and completely debunking their entire made up theory."
After the incident last Saturday, Azealia filed a police report against the 52-year-old actor but has now decided not to press charges. She told Us Weekly that she's not too worried about the scuffle damaging her reputation, adding that while she's got music and youth on her side, Russell has a "beer belly and jowls."
"Even if I were proven to be telling the truth in this situation, people have built their case up against me, and honestly I don't have the care or the time to try and fight millions...like, I can't fight the whole world. I am tired of defending myself. You know, it's just really unfortunate. People are going to think whatever they want to think about me. Y'all need to think about this damn music."
Russell has not made any statements on the incident.
