Anton Yelchin remembered by his 'Star Trek' family
The 27-year-old actor died on Sunday in a freak car accident
Anton Yelchin died on Sunday, his publicist and police told ABC News. The 27-year-old actor, known for his roles in the Star Trek reboot films, Terminator Salvation and House of D, was found dead, pinned between his car and a mailbox pillar in what appears to be a freak accident at his home in Los Angeles.
Anton's friends had been expecting him at a rehearsal, but when he didn't show up, they came to his home and found him dead. The car had rolled down the steep driveway by accident, reports add, and the car engine was still running.
The cast and crew of Star Trek were among many to pay tribute to Anton, who played the beloved mathematics wiz Pavel Chekov. He has a few films coming out posthumously, including Star Trek Beyond, out in cinemas next month.
J.J. Abrams, who produced Star Trek Beyond and directed the first two films, released a statement to Entertainment Weekly on behalf of the cast and crew.
Anton was our little brother. But only by years; he was as wise and clever and intellectually curious as anyone we ever knew. His laugh was preposterous – you couldn't hear it and not laugh yourself. He was funny, edgy, wild and talented beyond measure. His focus and dedication was admirable, as was his love of family, friends, literature and music.
We loved Anton, at work or at play. We are all shocked and numb and devastated by the world’s loss of an extraordinary young man.
To his family, we send you our love during this impossible time.
We will miss Anton forever.
His Star Trek family.
