Amy Schumer is in talks to play Barbie
Sony Pictures finally gets moving with its live-action Barbie film
Amy Schumer isn't getting a Barbie doll made to look like her; she's going to be Barbie in an upcoming live-action film. Deadline reports that the comedian is in negotiations to play the famous Mattel doll in the movie slated for release in 2018.
Amy's character will live in Barbieland alongside other Barbie dolls and will have an eccentric, extraordinary personality that gets her kicked out of her homeland. She then goes on an adventure in the "real world" and eventually has to return to Barbieland to save it (a la Splash and The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water). Apparently, she will then realise that "perfection comes on the inside, not the outside, and that the key to happiness is belief in oneself".
Amy and her sister Kim Caramele are said to be writing the script for the film while the search for a female director to helm it continues. We've no doubt that the Trainwreck star will give the doll and its image of perfection a breath of fresh air. Given how Barbie's image has changed drastically over the recent years to include body diversity and female empowerment, it makes Amy, an outspoken feminist, the dream candidate.
