Alicia Vikander is the next Lara Croft
With an Academy Award and a continuous streak of noteworthy (if not also award-winning) films under her belt, Alicia Vikander is unstoppable. Now, she is set to play Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Roar Uthaug will direct the film, which focuses on a younger Lara.
The Swedish actress's filmography is dominated by the dramatic genre, but her next brush with action will be opposite Matt Damon in the upcoming Jason Bourne. So if you have any doubts about Alicia excelling in the action genre, erase them now.
Angelina Jolie set the bar high – very high – when she played the adventurous archaeologist in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). There's no replacing Angelina, but we're already sold on Alicia putting her own badass spin on Lara Croft.
