If you're active on social media, then you might have noticed celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Cara Delevingne, Tom Hiddleston and even Oprah Winfrey dumping iced cold water over themselves lately. But of course this ridiculously cool act has its reason.

The viral ALS Ice Bucket Challenge (or just Ice Bucket Challenge) is a campaign to raise awareness of ALS Association, an American nonprofit organisation that raises money for research and patient services related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. And it seems that the challenge is doing its job - according to The New York Times as the ALS Association has raised $13.3 million in donations compared to the $1.7 million received during the same period last year.

How it works: You either get dunked with a bucket full of freezing ice water by the person that nominated you (within 24 hours of the nomination) or you donate to the cause. But we do hope people will do both: The ice bucket challenge for fun and donating money because it's an excellent good cause.

Here are some celebrities being a good sport and accepting the #IceBucketChallenge.
