Tilda Swinton is Nars' new face

The British actress will front the make-up brand’s Spring campaign

Tilda Swinton may often be ridiculed on fashion pages for her wardrobe choices, but makeup artist and Nars creator François Nars sees something else in the 53-year-old actress, choosing her as the new face for the brand’s upcoming spring campaign.

In fact, Nars is known for choosing unusual beauties to represent them, including actress Charlotte Rampling and fashionable socialite Daphne Guinness.

Nars explains that he chose Tilda for the coming season in part because on the strength of characters that she has chosen to play in films such as We Need to Talk About Kevin and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

He told WWD, “I love [Tilda’s] bold style and really admire her work. As an actress, she brings such strong personality to the camera. And as a woman, she lives the experience of transformation and expression.”

The four portraits which Nars personally shot of Tilda will be used in ads showcasing the four makeup collections and will run through the first four months of 2015.

Tilda also expressed her excitement for the campaign and for working with Nars. “I met François only recently, having long been an admirer of his from afar for many years” Tilda told WWD. “I liked him immensely and immediately and we were eager, from that first session, to do more things together. [The shoot was] the greatest of fun – supremely nice people, full of ease and play.”

This isn’t Tilda’s first foray into fashion though as she’s been chosen by many other designers and brands, including Chanel, Mercedes Benz and Pringle of Scotland, to front their campaigns.
