Miley Cyrus recently posted up an Instagram photo showing a close-up of her eye, minus an obvious chunk of lash hairs that were ripped out. According to Miley, her eyelash curler ran away with the lashes ("F---ing curler chopped my dayummmm lash!"). Check the pic below.

So yes, it can happen, when an eyelash curler is yanked wrongly or isn't taken care of. Here's how you can avoid a mishap like Miley's.

1. Clean it up.
Clean the little pad on the curler with some makeup remover after each use, and change it regularly, so there won't be holes or gobs of sticky goo waiting in silence to yank out a hair or two.

2. Curl before.
Only curl your lashes before applying mascara. Curling after mascara will cause your lashes to, one, stick to the curler, and two, ergo, break apart when the curler is lifted.

3. Go gentle.
Clamping down too hard or for too long can also cause your lashes to go 'snap!'. Using a pulsing motion with a light hand for 3-5 seconds at a time should suffice.

4. Squeeze not.
Instead of aiming the eyelash curler at one point and giving it an almighty squeeze, the right way is to curl the lashes in 3 segments – at the base, the middle and the ends.

5. Keep it steady.
After curling, pulling up and over to release equals death for your lashes. Instead, release the curler, then slowly pull away from your lashes in horizontal motion.
