Christian Louboutin is now doing nails
The shoe master is dipping his toe into the beauty market
Ever needed nails to match the scarlet soles of your favourite Loubs? Now you can, because shoemaster Christian Louboutin is finally dipping his (perfectly pedicured, no doubt) toe into the beauty market. His first product: Rouge Louboutin, a super-luxe nail polish in the same shade as those famous red soles.
Louboutin devotees may be familiar with the story of how the red soles first came about – dissatisfied with the colour and finish of an early sample shoe, the designer took to the soles with a bottle of nail varnish. So it seems fitting that this would be his first foray into beauty. The nail polishes apparently boast the highest percentage of pigment in the market, and are contained in sculptural bottles, perfectly crafted and weighted for ease of use. The cap was designed to resemble a calligraphy brush and the faceted glass bottle an homage to classical shapes. So it's not cheap ($50 dollars a pop), but you can justify it as a multipurpose objet d'art.
The first shade out is the classic red, but 30 more shades will be made available over the coming months. The polishes will only be available in very select stores across the US and certain, carefully chosen international markets. You can currently pre-order the shade on Saks Fifth Avenue's website.
