Christian Dior Makeup has named Peter Philips the new creative and image director of the brand, effective immediately, making the announcement on Twitter.

Peter was previously the creative director of makeup at Chanel, a position he’s held since 2008 and relinquished in February 2013.

“I am honoured by the responsibilities that are entrusted to me by Christian Dior makeup, whose values, savoir-faire and innovation I respect,” Peter said. “I am very excited to work with all the teams involved and immerse myself in the world of Dior.”

At Chanel Peter was responsible for the house’s most talked about runway looks, sell-out cult products and his inventive use of colour and new technology.

Peter replaces influential makeup artist Pat McGrath and creative director of cosmetics Tyen, who has held the position since 1981.
