Azzedine Alaļa creates his first fragrance
The scent of high fashion
One of our favourite scenes in Clueless is when Alicia Silverstone's character Cher tries to explain to a mugger that she can't get down on the ground because she is wearing Alaïa. "You don't understand. This is an Alaïa... It's, like, a totally important designer," Cher tells the robber.
It's been 20 years since the film came out, but Tunisian designer Azzedine Alaïa is as relevant as ever. Lady Gaga and Michelle Obama are fans, and so is Vanessa Friedman of the New York Times, who reported yesterday that the Paris-based label is creating its first ever perfume in conjunction with Beauté Prestige International. Azzedine Alaïa also posted an announcement on his Instagram account.
The fragrance will be out some time this summer, which means our chance to finally say we're wearing a really important designer is just around the corner. In the meantime, watch the charming 74-year-old designer show us how it is done on the dancefloor in this clip captured by ELLE UK Beauty Director Sophie Beresiner at the launch in Paris yesterday:
