How joining SK-II Beauty Bound unleashed Fairuz Nadia's confidence
What it takes to become SK-II's next big beauty vlogger
Ah, the beauty vlogging life. Ring lights, sweet beauty treats, meeting superstar bloggers – now a reality for Malaysian SK-II Beauty Bound winner Fairuz Nadia Anuar, best known as Inner Maverick on social media. We spoke to her on bagging the top prize (a US$60,000 package) in SK-II's web reality series.
What made you audition for Beauty Bound?
"I heard about it from a friend and didn't think much about it as I thought I wouldn't go far. Then I watched someone's audition video and thought I might as well try! I had nothing to lose, I've always wanted to turn my passion for making YouTube videos into a career and the timing was perfect, as I had taken a break from work (I was a fashion writer) to focus on my videos. It was when SK-II selected me as a Top 8 finalist that I found my inner confidence and really wanted to go all the way in the competition!"
What do you think gave you an edge over the other contestants?
"I believe it is my passion for telling stories, as I've always been obsessed with films and characters. My beauty videos usually revolve around a narrative."
What is the biggest takeaway for you from this experience?
"It would be the people that I met and made friends with. I am very lucky to have met amazing and inspiring people throughout the competition, who inspired me even more to continue doing what I love most!"
What's next for you?
"I'll be creating more fashion and beauty videos regularly on my YouTube channel, Inner Maverick. I mostly film during the weekend and edit throughout the week. I would also like to work with other Malaysian and international YouTubers! My next big dream is to become an internationally known YouTuber."
If there's a third season of Beauty Bound, who should take part?
"Anyone who enjoys making videos, and wants to share what they love with everyone, be it a short story, beauty review, or fashion advice! Passion is the one thing that drives you to do better, learn more and work harder no matter what challenge is thrown at you."
