Contrary to popular belief, the ‘no makeup’ makeup look – always one of the go-tos in the Spring/Summer season – is one of the trickiest looks to achieve. The key is in knowing how to play up and complement the existing tones within your complexion. But to make things easier, here’s a step-by-step guide using the new Nars Spring 2015 Colour Collection, with a few extra tips from yours truly.

Nars Blush in Reckless, RM120

Step 1: The skin
Prep the skin with a primer to create a smooth canvas to work on, and follow with a light coverage foundation. Next, blur out any imperfections under the eyes with a creamy concealer and finish with a light dusting of loose powder to set. Now it’s time to play up the colours. Dust the blush in Reckless into the hollows of the cheeks to add some warmth to the complexion, while also subtly illuminating it with soft pink shimmer.

Nars Eye Paint in Porto Venere, RM95; Nars Single Eyeshadow in Valhalla, RM90

Step 2: The eyes
Create an eye base by blending the Eye Paint in Porto Venere from lash line to brow bone. Then, for some graphic appeal, line the upper lash line with the Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Via Veneto. Feel free to lightly line the lower lash line if you want – just don’t forget to softly blend! If you wish to use eye shadow, we recommend using no more than two shades of taupe and not colouring in too far beyond the eye crease (this is supposed to be a natural look after all). Finally, complete the eye look with a single coat of the Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara for a final touch of drama.

Nars Lipstick in Liguria, RM90; Nars Lip Gloss in Guyane, RM85; Nars Lip Gloss in Vent Salé, RM85

Step 3: The lips
Last but not least, start working on the lips by completely colouring them in with the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Belle De Jour to create a neutral base. The reason it’s better to colour in is so that even when your lipstick or gloss wears off, you won’t be left with an unsightly ‘ring around the mouth’. To finish, colour your lips with the Lipstick in Liguria to complete the sophisticated and nude look. Lip gloss optional, though we do like to place a touch of Lip Gloss in Vent Salé just in the middle of the lower lip for a silver highlight.

The Nars Spring 2015 Colour Collection is available at Nars counters from February 2015.
